See Fatima, one of the most important Catholic sanctuaries in the world to Batalha, the fields where one of the biggest battles in Portugal occurred and changed the run of Portuguese history. Get to know the beautiful beaches of Nazaré, including Praia do Norte beach, where the big surf waves take place. Last but not least, you will get to know the medieval town of Obidos which is surrounded by fortress walls.
Begin your tour at 9am with hotel (or central meeting point) pickup by your friendly guide.
Sit back and enjoy the scenery in an air-conditioned minivan as you head to your first destination, Fátima. Located approximately one hour away from Lisbon, Fátima is the religious capital of Portugal and became famous after sightings of the Virgin Mary appeared here. You will visit both the old and new sanctuaries and Sanctuary Square, the location of the shrine.
Next you will head to the Monastery of Batalha, elected one of the Seven wonders of Portugal and UNESCO World Heritage. It’s one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in the country and was built as a worship gift for the victory in the Battle of Aljubarrota, one of the biggest battles in Portuguese history.
As the journey continues to Nazaré, host to some of the Portuguese coast's most beautiful beaches and a fishermen villa that holds the record for the world’s largest wave that was ever surfed. Here you will break for lunch, perhaps choosing from one of the many tasty seafood restaurants (At your own expense).
After lunch, you will continue your travels along the coast towards the historic village of Óbidos. This beautiful village is situated inside the ancient medieval fortress walls of the XII century. Its narrow streets, white-painted houses, and ramparts are a vision not to be missed. Before leaving Óbidos, enjoy a sample of “Ginginha” a cherry liquor, sipped from a chocolate cup.
Take in the picturesque coastline as you head back to Lisbon, arriving at approximately 6pm.
